About the Pool of Life

'Pool of Life' are the first breast cancer survivor dragon boat racing team in Great Britain. The team was set up in April 2004 under the protective wings of Amathus Dragon Boat Club.  Dave Bangs and Barbara Keenan have both coached 'Pool of Life' for the last 4 years and supported the team in all events.  The club has over 100 members consisting of men and women from the ages of 12 to 69.

In September 2006 'Pool of Life' attended the first World Championships in Singapore, successfully winning 3 Bronze medals and a Silver.  The 16 strong team travelled to Sabaudia in Italy on 4th September 2008 and came first in the 200m and 500m races at the European Championships.

All our members are registered with the British Dragon Boat Association and race at league events all over Great Britain. We are a floating support group supporting breast cancer survivors and their families emotionally and physically.
